Dan Milligan is a Canadian storyboard artist based in Toronto, his International career has evolved and blossomed over the past ten years. Dan attended the Ontario College of Art and Design where he graduated in 1984 and currently has his own company called Dan Milligan Illustration Ltd. You can visit his website here.

Not long after the news got out (May 2006) that the Canadian based production company Copperheart Entertainment had optioned the Dragonriders of Pern some concept art appeared on the conceptart.org forum by artist Dan Milligan, who posted the pictures and wrote: "Here's some dragony pre pre-pro stuff for a dragony project. (note: I'm just a wrist for hire, not a dragon expert so be gentle)". It didn't take Pern fans long to latch on to this. Why was not totally clear but after a few days the art was taken off the forum.

Most of the art pictured here is stuff Dan originally posted on the forum, some of it he later put up on his own website and the last picture was given to me by Anne McCaffrey herself on a visit in August of 2006.

The piece on the right will be Dan's interpretation of a dragonrider. A larger version can be seen on his website.

This is how it was posted on the forum. The coloured study looks like a hatching candidate getting to know her dragon. A further worked on study of the colour sketch can be found on Dan's website.

Two of the posted pictures were monochrome studies.

This monochrome study was further worked upon by Dan and the result, pictured below can also be seen on his website.

The picture above was presented to me by Anne McCaffrey in August 2006 at her home in Ireland. Unfortunately her colour printer had broken down and she had to print it on the B&W laserprinter, so I got it in black and white (I added some colour to it using photoshop).
